ASSE 1-3 Bordeaux : end of the streak
Bordeaux was physical superior and put an end to the Verts’ long, undefeated streak, who struck the beams of the net twice and missed a penalty kick.

Joy, sorrow and a bit of disappointment. The Cauldron, without its South Kop and sold out for the match, was permeated by all types of emotion this Sunday. Joy first of all, when Rémy Cabella opened the score, with a penalty kick given to the Verts due to a foul against Robert Beric, which launched the Verts towards an undefeated streak that would have spanned 14 matches (27). Sorrow, next, when ASSE’s fans saw Sankharé tie the game with a head butt (30) and when Koundé scored the second goal for Bordeaux after a well shot corner lick (36), demonstrating the desire of Bordeaux to play their all in order to qualify for the Europa League. Then the feeling of disappointment that came when Jonathan Bamba (83) then Mathieu Debuchy (88) struck the beams of Benoît Costil’s net. The Bordeaux goalie managed to then successfully block a penalty kick made by Rémy Cabella, sixty seconds before the end of injury time (89). Despite an offensive strategy (the subbing in of Jonathan Bamba and Paul-Georges Ntep), Jean-Louis Gasset and his team collided with the Bordeaux defensive line. Malcom, at the last moment of the game, even scored another goal for Bordeaux (90+5). This first defeat since January 20th will not prevent the Verts from staying on the path to the Europa League. The Stéphanois, hunters and hunted, are still in a good position in the rankings.
THE GOALS
27th (1-0): Rémy Cabella opens the score! The number 10 Stéphanois transformed his penalty kick into the first goal of the match for the Verts when he caught Benoît Costil off-guard.
30th (1-1): Bordeaux evens the score immediately after. Younousse Sankharé, with a head butt, ties the game by taking the ball after a center kick made by Sabaly.
36th (1-2): another goal for Bordeaux. With a corner kick, Jules Kounde gives the advantage to his team with a strong kick made at close range.
90+5 (1-3): Malcom puts an end to any and all suspense at the last moment of the game. His shot, made from quite a distance, got past Stéphane Ruffier at the end of the additional time.
THE COACH'S ANALYSIS
During the break, Jean-Louis Gasset asked his players to “follow through”. Having struck the beams of the net twice and having obtained a penalty, the Verts made the effort to prolong their undefeated streak. Before the match, the Stéphanois tactician was worried about a hitch against a team as great as Bordeaux, during a match that was played in an overwhelming heat. After the match, during the press conference, he described the weariness of his players who have given much these last few weeks to bring the club back to its former position in the rankings and even within reach of a qualification for the Europa League.
