A very important Stéphanois victory took place this Sunday against Toulouse, the outcome of a stunning match that finally ended in favour of Jean-Louis Gasset’s players. After the success during the Coupe de France championship, the Verts are confirming that they’re turning over a new leaf and distancing themselves from their past difficulties.
This victory, that had escaped them since this past October, allows the Verts to occupy tonight the 14th place in the rankings of Ligue 1 Conforama and to re-establish their confidence in 2018.
As well as Robert Beric, who scored his second goal since his return to Saint-Etienne, Jessy Moulin was the outstanding player in the first half. Determined, he brought his A game against Gradel (2, 21, 41), but also against Somalia (20), Amian (40) and Diop (42). Lacroix, assisted by Selnaes (33), could’ve scored the first goal of the match and Beric deserved a penalty due to Sylla (43). Luckily, in regards of what followed, Delort’s foul on Bamba didn’t escape the eyes of Mikaël Lesage. Robert Beric, facing Kop Nord, didn’t tremble (ASSE 1-0 TFC, 45).
Well motivated by this goal just before half time, the Verts could have put an end to the silence three minutes after the return from the locker rooms, when Beric made a great assiste for Hamouma.
The Slovenian then missed a head-on collision with Lafont (73), who then redirected a kick from Monnet-Paquet (79). Shortly afterwards, Assane Diousse, called into the game by Jean-Louis Gasset, scored the second goal of the game much to the delight of the Stéphanois (ASSE 2-0 TFC, 87). It was thus another victory for the Verts following the victory against Nîmes (2-0), which let’s them start 2018 on the right foot.
