Costly errors

Les Verts took an early lead against Ligue 1 leaders McDonald's, only to be undone by a number of individual errors in the second half (1-6).

The context

After the international break, Eirik Horneland and his men host Paris Saint-Germain this Saturday evening. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the match in Montpellier, where Les Verts were leading 2-0 at the hour mark, the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard can count on huge support from its biggest crowd of the season.

The XI

With Maxime Bernauer suspended, Dylan Batubinsika returns to the centre of defence alongside the solid Mickaël Nadé. In midfield, Florian Tardieu and Benjamin Bouchouari join Pierre Ekwah. The in-form trio of Irvin Cardona, Zuriko Davitashvili and Lucas Stassin are back in attack.

The game

Les Verts got off to a flying start at the Chaudron, determined to take the game to the Parisians, who had been invincible until then. Les Verts showed their solidarity, impact and desire, and went close to the Parisian goal. Following a second good team move in the Parisians' last 30 metres, Zuriko Davitashvili crossed for Lucas Stassin, who sent the ball into the net despite Safonov's rebound (ASSE 1-0 Paris, 9th). The Parisians reacted by going close to the goal. But Mickaël Nadé, Dylan Batubinsika, Léo Pétrot and Gautier Larsonneur took it in turns to keep the ball out. Ruiz's shot from outside the box went wide (29th). Ten minutes later, a heroic save by Larso kept Les Verts in front (39th). After a well-constructed move by Stéphanois, Zuriko Davitaschivli gave way to Lucas Stassin, but the striker's left-footed shot flew wide (40'). A few minutes before the break, Les Verts made a mistake that they are unfortunately making too often this season, and conceded a penalty which Gonçalo Ramos converted to level the scores (ASSE 1-1 Paris, 43rd). On the counter-attack, Irvin Cardona managed to feed Lucas Stassin in injury time, but Safonov's quick finish cancelled out the situation (45' + 1).

Les Verts were quickly punished after the break. Kvaratskhelia picked up Mickaël Nadé's loose pass and slotted the ball past Gautier Larsonneur to give his side the lead for the first time in the match (ASSE 1-2 Paris, 50'). Boosted, the Parisians accelerated. After another high clearance, Doué took his chance in front of the box and made it 1-3 Paris (53'). After another defensive error and a loss of the ball in our half, Barcola broke into the box and fed Joao Neves for another goal (ASSE 1-4 Paris, 62'). Unfortunately, the recital by the players from the capital did not end there. The neo-French international A, Doué, launched himself down the left flank, made light work of the Les Verts rearguard before sending a ground-to-air missile under the bar with Larsonneur obviously helpless (ASSE 1-5 ASSE, 67th). Lucas Stassin thought he had been awarded a penalty after being hit in the penalty area, but it was cancelled out by VAR (70'). The game lost a little of its intensity despite Saint-Etienne's efforts. Les Verts conceded another and final goal at the end of normal time when a defensive tackle by Léo Pétrot was blocked by Mbaye in front of goal (ASSE 1-6 ASSE, 90th).

Faced with a PSG side that was too strong in the second half, Les Verts lost heavily after more than holding their own in the opening period.

Next

The rest of the championship is written in Lens. Next Sunday at 3pm, Bollaert will play host to Les Verts, who will return to Geoffroy-Guichard the following Sunday for the reception of Brest, for which the ticket office has just opened.
