Derby is for Stéphanois!!!

In a fiery Derby, Les Verts, buoyed by a Chaudron on a night to remember, picked up three points and regional supremacy thanks to their 2-1 win over Lyon.

The context

After last Sunday's spectacular 3-3 draw with Brest, Les Verts host arch-rivals Olympique Lyonnais in the 126th Derby. The big match of Ligue 1 matchday 30 McDonald's can count on a packed Geoffroy-Guichard stadium!

The XI

With Benjamin Bouchouari absent and Yvann Maçon suspended, Eirik Horneland has opted for Aimen Moueffek in the heart of the game and Dennis Appiah on the right side of defence. As for the rest, it's business as usual!

The game

In an overexcited Chaudron that has never lived up to its nickname. Les Verts were putting on more pressure, more intensity and encroaching on their opponents' half. The first chance fell to Zuriko Davitashvili, but his shot from the edge of the area went wide after a team move (7th). A wonderful cross from Léo Pétrot on the edge of the area was met by Lucas Stassin, who headed from close range between Descamps' legs to send the Chaudron into raptures (ASSE 1-0 Lyon, 9th). From a long cross towards the far post by Irvin Cardona, Florian Tardieu was set up and took his chance with a left-footed volley that rattled the back of the net (20th). The Chaudron then erupted in joy when VAR replaced a red card issued to Lucas Stassin with a simple warning. The striker had tickled Tolisso's ankle (23rd). Lucas Stassin was again in the thick of the action when he latched onto a ball over the top of the defence and took his chance on the turn, but was unable to beat the keeper (29'). Zuriko Davitashvili, set up by Lucas Stassin, spiked the ball but saw it sail just wide (37'). Lyon's first reaction came from former Verts player Jordan Veretout. But his shot from the edge of the area was saved by ‘Larso’ (40'). Les Verts soon got back into the game, however. Lucas Stassin again took his chance and forced Descamps into a tap-in (43rd). After the match was interrupted because of a projectile thrown at the assistant referee, play resumed for four minutes of added time, during which Les Gones only managed a corner.

Lyon's first chance of the half came after the break. But Caleta-Car's header from a cross went wide (50'). Zuriko Davitasvhili's long free-kick forced Descamps into a tap-in. Dennis Appiah's shot from the following corner was blocked (54'). Taking advantage of a misunderstanding along the touchline, “Zuka” challenged Descamps from an angle that was too narrow for him to beat (59'). The stadium roared again when Pierre Ekwah's missile struck the crossbar with Descamps beaten (64'). Descamps was also beaten when Lucas Stassin inherited a ball in the opposition half, took his chance from distance and placed the ball against the post (ASSE 2-0 Lyon, 67th). Les Verts were also in the ascendancy when Lyon hit ‘Larso’'s right-hand post with a long-range effort (71st). He could do nothing when Teesmann made light of the Les Verts defence and placed the ball along the right-hand post (ASSE 2-1 Lyon, 76th). Zuriko Davitashvili then tried to curl the ball in, but it didn't turn enough to hit the target (83rd). After a tense end to the half, the whole stadium erupted at the final whistle.
