Eirik Horneland: “Can't wait to face a team like this”
Two days ahead of Lille-ASSE, this Saturday (9:05pm), the Les Verts coach spoke of the challenge facing his players against one of the teams of the moment!
The infirmary
Anthony Briançon is doubtful, Augustine Boakye was ill but trained today, Louis Mouton is ill this Thursday. There's a lot of flu in France, and we're no exception. We've gone back to basics with masks, using common sense. Yvann Maçon is back with us with no restrictions!
Post-Auxerre
Against Auxerre, we initially struggled on the pitch of one of the best home teams in the league. We also had to find connections in a new midfield. And then we ran out of energy. We've only had four days to prepare for this match and we've put a lot of intensity into training. This week, physically, the players are responding well. I hope that will show against Lille!
The arrival of Irvin Cardona
I'm very happy to have Irvin back! I've seen him play for ASSE and also in Spain. He's a player who plays with a lot of intensity and activity, and who's very keen to play for this club. He'll bring pace and speed, which we lack offensively. I think his best position is on the right wing. He's also an interesting header. His activity will free up space for his team-mates. That will be an advantage for us!
Lille, the next opponent
We'll be playing a Lille team in confident mood after their big win in the Champions League, who put a lot of pace and intensity into their matches. They may be a little tired, as they've been playing one game after another in recent weeks. We'll see on Saturday! But they're a team I've enjoyed watching play recently, and I'm looking forward to facing them. Like against PSG, playing against this kind of top-level team allows us to move forward and progress.
