Eirik Horneland: ‘It's not a bonus match'
With the international break behind him, Les Verts' coach is now turning his attention to the big game that awaits his players, when they take on leaders Paris at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium this Saturday (7pm).
Update on the squad
Augustine Boakye had an operation on his ankle during the summer break. He will be out for the rest of the season. As for Djylian N'Guessan, who played three games and scored five goals, we'll have to wait and see how fit he is when he returns from international duty. Zuriko Davitashvili and Dylan Batubinsika are back in form and confident after their victories. We'll see tomorrow (Friday) for Aïmen Moueffek, who did his first session in the group today, but it went well! Mickaël Nadé had an operation on a finger. He's been training normally, but we'll do a final check-up. Ben Old and Ibrahima Wadji are both hoping to make the squad for the Paris game, and are ready to take part.
The Paris reception
So far, nobody has beaten PSG. We must have the ambition to be the first team to do so, but that will not be enough. We'll need an enormous amount of quality, commitment, a very good day and success to match a team that is currently one of the best in Europe, if not the best. The difficulty for us is that they have quality, but they also put a lot of commitment into what they do (...) We have to approach this game like any other: it's a match that can earn us points. It's not a bonus match, it's our next match.
After Montpellier
It's the first time I've had a match stopped and it's something I don't hope to experience again. When the match was stopped, I wanted the problem to be resolved and the match to be restarted so that it could go ahead, because I want to play fair and it was the fairest scenario for us, for Montpellier and for the League. We also wanted to win this match to savour a victory, a first away win, a first clean sheet since I arrived. From now on, the decision about this match belongs to others. Whatever it is, we'll have to adapt.
Disbanding the supporters' groups
There is a relationship of communication and trust between our supporters' groups and ourselves. Without this organisation, it would be difficult. The supporters and the atmosphere are very important at a match, in football in general and at Saint-Étienne in particular. To put on a good show, the players, the clubs and the general public need this passion. It's important for the French league and, more broadly, for football.
