Eirik Horneland: “Take the hit and get back to work”

Les Verts were soundly beaten in Marseille on Saturday (5-1), and will need to bounce back quickly ahead of a number of head-to-head matches. That's what coach Eirik Horneland told the media.

Les Verts outclassed

It's hard to analyse this match. I think Marseille outplayed us today in terms of ball retention, control of the game, counter-pressing... We tried to get out of that hold, to regain control of the match, but Marseille took a lot of energy from us by doubling their passes. It was very hard against a team that was far better than us. At half-time, with the score at 1-0 despite several second-goal situations, we had to start fighting again. That penalty at the start of the second half hurt us. We're still taking too many away goals.

The next steps

We've played Paris, Lille and Marseille on our most recent trips. It's not easy to get our heads up against these teams, but we have to do it in these next games. You have to look after your head after a game like that. We have to keep believing. We'll take the blow tonight and get back to work tomorrow. We've got a very important game coming up against Angers next weekend. We're going to have to keep believing and put a lot of energy into it. We're going to have to move forward. It's a very important part of the season for us. We're in the relegation zone and we're going to be playing teams who are fighting just like us. We're going to have to fight too! Angers are coming home, so we'll have to be ready.
