Jean-Louis Gasset: "A very good game"
The Stéphanois coach did not hide his satisfaction after his team’s victory against AS Monaco (2-0).
How do you feel about this new-found success?
I had said that we were progressing in the game and we played a very good match, which confirms my impression. I like the quality of our performance. We dominated in the first half, even if Monaco had a few openings in their favour. We had decided to play offensively instead of defensively. That created a bit of a crazy match, with openings for both teams. That’s what we like in Football. Despite their openings, we finished the match without conceding a single goal, (Stéphane) Ruffier was again phenomenal.
You just finished a perfect week with three straight wins.
Everything’s going well. Seven days ago, we were in fourteenth place and we had just lost 4-0 against Paris. Everyone was alarmed. I asked for time. I knew that, when the main players had gotten back in shape, it would be better. As I said last week, there’s a good atmosphere among the players. The players who rested in Toulouse were excellent. The only downside of our evening was Gabriel Silva’s injury, which seems important to me, and Wahbi Khazri’s small muscular problem. That’s due to the frequent matches and to a bit of stress, I think.
What does this temporary 2nd place ranking inspire in you?
It’s maybe only for one night but the ranking pleases us. At the end of the day, we’ll be in the top five, which is a good ranking. We speak often of solidarity, of determination, of generosity and this evening, we’ve shown all of that. In front of such an audience, that’s the bare minimum for us. But we added game quality, openings to score and goals and that’s what I like in this job.
