Les Vertes take a point
On Matchday 13 of the Arkema Première Ligue, Les Vertes started the match on the right foot, but conceded a 2-2 draw.
The match got off to a good start for our Vertes, who quickly opened the scoring with their first chance. Chloé Tapia's cross from the left was met by Cindy Caputo, who slotted the ball past Burns (ASSE 1-0 Nantes, 7th)! The Amazons, still with the same intentions after the opening goal, continue to push forward and have another chance three minutes later. Sarah Cambot collected the ball in midfield and set up Amandine Pierre-Louis, whose shot was blocked and fell to the head of Sarah Stratigakis. The attempt failed to deceive Emily Burns, the former verte, attentive on her line. But the next nets to tremble were not those of Nantes, but those of Les Vertes. From a corner deflected by Easther Mayi Kith, Louise Fleury, alone at the far post, put her flat-footed shot past keeper Maryne Gignoux (ASSE 1-1 Nantes, 16th). The rest of the first half saw both teams try to take the lead, but after fourteen minutes of stoppage time, the score remained level.
The second half began with Faustine Bataillard shooting from the edge of the area, but her effort was saved for a corner by the Nantes goalkeeper. The ensuing corner saw Lisa Martinez head over. Les Nantaises requisitioned the ball and pushed forward to take the lead, but none of their attempts broke down Les Vertes, who remained solid defensively. With the ball in their hands, the Canaries made a mistake that Cindy Caputo did not let slip through her fingers. A poor control by Cosme, in the last defender's position, allowed Cindy to recover and race towards goal. Her cross-shot gave the Nantes goalkeeper no chance (ASSE 2-1 Nantes, 76th). Les Vertes' joy was short-lived, however, when captain Solène Champagnac headed a Nantes cross past Maryne Gignoux (ASSE 2-2 Nantes, 81st). The two teams played out a draw, leaving the duel with a point - the first for Les Vertes after three straight defeats.
After today's action, the Stéphanois remain in eighth place. They will travel to Charléty to take on Paris FC on the next Arkema Première Ligue matchday (Friday 14th, 9pm), but first the French Cup in Lille next Sunday, for the competition's quarter-finals.
