Les Vertes triumph in Lille and advance to the semi-finals

Les Vertes clinched their place in the semi-finals of the French Cup with a brilliant 0-3 victory over Lille on Sunday. They will face Paris-Saint-Germain at home on the weekend of March 8, in a bid to reach the final.

The first half promised to be a tight affair for Les Vertes against a well-organized Lille side. However, Les Vertes had their first chance. Sarah Stratigakis initiated the first cross and found Sarah Cambot alone at the near post. The Lille goalkeeper was attentive and caught the cross before our striker could arrive. The Stéphanoises wanted to show their determination and the referee of the day had to use his whistle several times, before cautioning Faustine Bataillard with a yellow card after only ten minutes of play. The first half could have turned in Lille's favor when Bamenga found herself alone along the corner line. She beat Easther Mayi Kith and crossed between the keeper and the Les Vertes defence. Fortunately, Delcroix failed to hit the far post. On the half-hour mark, Sarah Cambot collected a ball on the edge of the area and advanced between the Lille defenders to try her luck. Her shot, not quite cross-cutting enough, failed to deceive the home keeper. A few minutes before the end of the first half, after a high clearance, Cindy Caputo tried her luck from distance, but the keeper turned the ball onto the bar. Amandine Pierre-Louis recovered, but her shot was directly blocked by Rousseau.
Despite numerous attempts by Les Vertes and some lightning counter-attacks by Lille, the two teams went into the locker room level.

The second half got off to a flying start. Les Vertes won the ball back on the edge of the area, and Morgane Belkhiter crossed cleverly for Sarah Cambot, who sent the ball past Amandine Pierre-Louis. She gave Rousseeu no chance (Lille 0-1 ASSE, 47th). A few minutes after the opening goal, the Dogues could have equalized when Hluschenko found himself in front of goal, but Chloé Tapia covered well and stopped Lille's offensive. The Stéphanoises had several chances to extend their lead, but Sarah Cambot lacked precision. On Lille's only real chance of the second half, a superb save from Emma Templier prevented an equaliser. Following a right-wing cross, the ball fell directly to Delcroix, who passed to Haugou. Our keeper held the ball back with both hands before it was finally cleared by Mayi Kith. As Les Vertes tried to claw their way back into the game, they left more and more space for their opponents. Sarah Stratigakis found a pass in the back of the defence for Sarah Cambot, who found herself alone in front of the goalkeeper, before passing to Cindy Caputo, who just had to finish into an empty net (Lille 0-2 ASSE, 79th). The gap widened and Les Vertes took advantage. Five minutes from the end, Adèle Connesson crossed for Cindy Caputo, whose shot was blocked by the Lille defence. Sarah Cambot, on the lookout, sent the ball into the left-hand corner of the net (Lille 0-3 ASSE, 84th).

After a fine second half, Les Vertes have qualified for the semi-finals and will face Paris-Saint-Germain on the weekend of March 8 in Saint-Étienne. Before that, Les Vertes face Paris FC in the Arkema Première Ligue next Friday at 9pm at the Stade Charléty.
