Mathieu Debuchy: «I'm hungry for victories»
Mathieu Debuchy and ASSE
“It didn’t take me long to decide to sign with ASSE after the exchanges I had with the coach Jean-Louis Gasset. I liked what he was saying and his will to push forward. There was already a good team in place and the other new recruits who signed with the team during the winter transfer window convinced me that I was making the right decision. I watched a few of the Verts’ matches during these last few weeks, in particular the one against Nice, and I think they performed well. I really want to help the team to once again rise in the ranking. I’m hungry for competition, for victories. I’m going to give everything I have to this team. My passion led me to make the effort to join ASSE, a large club that leaves an impression. I’m proud to wear my new jersey and to continue my career with the Verts. I have very good memories of the ambiance in this stadium when I was playing for Lille. The dedication of this club’s fans fascinates me, I love this popular atmosphere that reminds me of the one I knew while playing for Newcastle.”
Mathieu Debuchy and Arsenal
“I have very good memories of my first season. Unfortunately I was held back by two injuries. When I came back, the coach (Arsène Wenger) had made other choices that I respected. I’m happy to have played matches in the Premier League but from this point on Arsenal is behind me. Today, I’m one of the Verts.”
Mathieu Debuchy and Ligue 1
“A few years ago, many good players left Ligue 1 but right now the French clubs are managing to attract well-known, talented players. It’s beneficial for the championship, which is complicated. Every match is difficult to play and every weekend, there are surprises. One thing is for sure: the Verts do not rank as well as they normally do. The objective is clearly to rise in the rankings as quickly as possible. I’m a competitor. I want to enjoy my work. I always want to play again as soon as I leave the field and I’d like to play every weekend as well because I’m passionate about football. Getting ASSE back to its former standing is a great challenge for me to accept. When you’re a player, you can’t always stay in your comfort zone.”
